How to Navigate Project Detail Pages
This How To is an overview of the main menu options you can use to navigate Project Detail Pages (PDP’s) in Project Online (POL), rather than a step-by-step guide. Specific tasks and steps to creating, editing (etc) PDP’s will be covered by other How To documents, which may mean there will be repetition/duplication of this information.
- From your home or landing page of Project Online (POL), choose either Project Centre on the vertical menu bar, or Projects on the horizontal ‘tiles’ menu bar:
- This will display a grid list of projects. To get to the Project Detail Page of any of these, click the hyperlink in the ‘project name’ column.
- This will display the Project Detail Page associated with that project:
- There are two associated menu bars available in this view. The first is the Project menu:
This menu bar is broken into three sections:
Project – Allows you to Edit the project details, Save these edits and Close the Project Details Page.
Note that as soon as you select the Edit option, POL will “check out” the selected project in your name while changes are made and will give you the option to check back in when you close. (See MSP-006 – How to Check a Project Out, Save, Publish and Check Back In).
Workflow – Only displayed if your organisation has configured a workflow associated with project stages/approvals.
Note that the menu bar options all have help text that “pops up” when you hover your mouse over the button options.
This will take you to the POL site associated with this project, where you can access register items (e.g Risks, Issues etc.) and a project summary.
To return to the Project Details page, click Project Details on the side menu of the Project Site page.
You will land on a page where the Enterprise Resource Pool is displayed, allowing you to select either Generic or Named Resources and add these to your project, which will make them available for you to assign to tasks.
Once you have completed your selection, to return to the Project Detail Page, select Save and Close (or just Close, if you want to return without making any changes).
Any of these will take you to a library associated with your project e.g the Business Case. You can also add documents to this page simply by dragging files in.
Again, to return to the Project Details page, click Project Details on the side menu of the Project Site page.
Issues and Risks
Both the Issues and the Risks options work in the same way, taking you to the pages listing these items associated with the selected project, where you can view, add, edit, etc. These pages will display a side bar where you can move between register options, and return to the Project Details Page.
Works in a similar way to the Documents and Register Items options, but displays project deliverables with an associated Gantt chart view.
Use the side-bar menu option to return to the Project Details view.
Displays the current permission levels that are set for the project.
The page section of the Project menu simply “toggles” you between the options on the side bar menu of the project. In this instance the ‘Next’ button will take you to the Business Case Detail, from there to the Capex Summary, then the Project Status report etc. The ‘Previous’ button will take you back through in that order.
- The second associated menu bar available in this view.is the Page menu:
This is where you can edit your page, edit the properties of the page (including permissions) and where, if required, you can access and/or approve/reject workflow requests. These will be covered in separate How To documents.
